Ward 3 Quick Update: March 16, 2020

Ward 3 Resident,

These are difficult times for all of us! Together we will all get through this ever-changing Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis our nation and the world are battling. Thank you to our brave doctors, nurses, and first-responders on the front lines of all of this! Having served in the United States Army I view this as battling a war against COVID-19. Again don’t panic but be prepared to adapt to more changes to your daily life for the next several weeks or more. These changes are being made to help save the lives of your family, neighbors, and friends. Call and check-in with your family members and neighbors to see how they are doing. It’s important for families to restrict travel right now. I’ve advised members of my own family not to travel. I suggest only going out if you absolutely need to. Community spread is the biggest concern at the moment. The Ohio Department of Health has a Call Center to answer questions related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The Call Center is open 7 days a week from 9:00am to 8:00pm and can be reached at 1-833-4-ASK-ODH (1-833-427-5634). Call 911 or your healthcare provider right away if you believe that you have been exposed to COVID-19.

Some additional things to update you on regarding COVID-19 since my last update below:

Help for Ward 3 Residents & Businesses Impacted by COVID-19

  • Has your job been impacted by COVID-19? The Ohio Department of Job & Family Services (JFS) here to help! Please visit http://jfs.ohio.gov/coronavirus for new information and visit http://unemployment.ohio.govto apply for benefits. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed an emergency order to expand the flexibility to help you during this emergency.
  • United States Congressman Anthony Gonzalez launched a new email address for constituents seeking assistance with the federal government on issues related specifically to the COVID-19 pandemic. The email address, covid19help.OH16@mail.house.gov, will enable staff to more quickly respond to constituent services requests related to evolving federal government international travel restrictions and recommendations, Small Business Administration assistance for affected businesses, and guidance on how to contact county and state health authorities. Read More.
  • The Ohio Development Services Agency is preparing to submit an application in the coming week to qualify Ohio for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program. This program provides low-interest loans up to $2 million in order to help businesses overcome the temporary loss of revenue during the state of emergency. Non-profit organizations in Ohio will also be eligible for low-interest loans through the SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan program. In order to complete the state’s application, businesses impacted by the current public health crisis should immediately send their contact information to BusinessHelp@Development.Ohio.gov. Additional information on the SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program is available at SBA.gov/Disaster.
  • The Ohio Department of Commerce will immediately begin offering a one-time liquor buyback option to support bars and restaurants. This will especially aid those establishments that have stocked up on high-proof liquor ahead of the St. Patrick’s Day holiday for which they now have no use, due to their closure to in-house patrons. Bars and restaurants wishing to take advantage of this opportunity should return their unopened, high-proof liquor products (obtained within the past 30 days) to the agency where they purchased the product. This opportunity is also extended to those with temporary (F2) permits for events scheduled between March 12 and April 6, 2020. If a business has questions about this program, they should reach out directly to the Liquor Enterprise Service Center (LESC) at 1(877)812-0013 or by emailing OhioLiquorInfo@Com.Ohio.gov.

ALL Ohio Bars & Restaurants Ordered to Close
On March 15, 2020 Governor Mike DeWine announced that the Ohio Department of Health has issued a Director’s Order that will close ALL Ohio bars and restaurants to in-house patrons, effective at 9:00pm on March 15, 2020. Restaurants with take-out and delivery options will still be able to operate those services, even as their dining rooms are temporarily closed. Read More. While the health and safety of residents must be top priority, most of all of the restaurants and bars in North Royalton are small, locally owned businesses. Remember that you can still order delivery and carryout. In order to make life easier for residents I have put together a list of businesses plans to operate moving forward due to COVID-19 (See Below List). Please help our businesses and by working together we can help ensure they don’t have to permanently close their doors! I ask all residents to use the hashtag #SupportNOROBusinesses and snap a picture of the food you got and give a shout out on Social Media so your fellow neighbors, family, and friends can share the word on what’s available in our city.
