Ward 3 Quick Update: March 13, 2020

Ward 3 Resident,

I know there are a lot of residents concerned about the Coronavirus (COVID-19). We will all get through this by working together as both a Ward and a community! There are now at least 3 confirmed cases in Cuyahoga County and Governor Mike DeWine has declared as State of Emergency to allow state departments and agencies to better coordinate in their response to COVID-19. Read More.

We as local city officials here in North Royalton recognize the current COVID-19 situation and the potential impact. Fire Chief Robert Chegan, serving as the Emergency Coordinator for our City, and Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz have maintained daily situational awareness since the inception of this rapidly evolving situation. We as a City continue to coordinate with the following agencies on a daily basis: CDC, Ohio Department of Health, Cuyahoga County Office of Emergency Management, Cuyahoga County Board of Health, the International Association of Fire Chiefs and other government and healthcare agencies.

With that, it is important not to panic, be educated, and to take steps at home to prevent the spread of germs. To prepare and be aware of any potential outbreaks, ReadyNotify is our City’s Reverse 911 notification system powered by CodeRED. It’s used by the County and our community to issue emergency notifications to the residents, especially when rapid and accurate information is essential for your immediate safety. Important North Royalton City School District Information Regarding COVD-19

March 12, 2020 Message from Superintendent Greg Gurka:

Dear Parents and Community,

This afternoon, Governor Mike DeWine held a press conference announcing that students in Ohio will not report to school for three weeks due to the coronavirus.

Governor DeWine also said we have to do everything we can to slow down the spread of this virus and out of extreme caution, the District has decided to put that in place beginning tomorrow.  Students will not report to school beginning Friday, March 13 through April 3 unless otherwise ordered by Governor DeWine. All events scheduled to take place between now and April 3 are canceled. This includes all athletic practices, scrimmages, club meetings, and any activity that is part of our school program.  Additionally, Serpentini Stadium is closed.

On Friday, all school buildings will be open for students and parents only to pick up necessary educational supplies and/or equipment and personal items that may have been left in the building due to the timing of this announcement.   After tomorrow, our school facilities will be closed to the public.

We recognize that this decision will cause disruptions in the day to day routine for our families.  I will have further communication with you in the coming days in regards to any educational opportunities that our staff may provide for students.

Thank you for your support and cooperation during this time.

On March 13, 2020 the North Royalton City School District clarified that voting is still taking place in all 3 elementary school buildings on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 for the Presidental Primary Election.  The buildings will be open and then cleaned after the workers/voters leave.
