Just wanted to give you a quick update.

Annual Fire Hydrant Flushing in Ward 3
The North Royalton Fire Department has started their annual fire hydrant flushing. The Fire Department will begin flushing hydrants here in Ward 3 beginning tomorrow Thursday, May 31st and will continue for the next 10 to 14 days.  It may take them longer due to call volume, training, weather and other mandatory daily requirements.  Please be alert for discolored water and if it should occur, run your cold water until it is clear. Before an area is tested, residents will be notified through the city’s reverse 911 phone system called ReadyNotify. If you have not signed up for the city’s reverse 911 Click Here to sign up.

State House Update

Kasich selects Lima for State of the State speech

Budget and school-funding proposal
The administration’s budget proposal, including a school-funding plan, is expected to be released on Feb. 4. In addition to primary and secondary education funding, the proposal also is expected to include tax reform, higher education funding and Medicaid changes. This will be something I plan watch closely and already have plans to meet with our State Representative Mike Dovilla and our other lawmakers on the upcoming budget.

SINCE MY LAST SCHOOL BOARD UPDATE

Partnership for a Healthy North Royalton
Earlier this year, a collaborative coalition of parents, school personnel, business professionals, religious leaders, and other community activists known as the Partnership for a Healthy North Royalton, applied for and were awarded a Federal Drug-Free Community Grant. The grant will be active for two years under the guidance and mentorship of the CAPA (Community Awareness and Prevention Association), and local, well-established coalition in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights communities. A key component of this grant is to conduct a Community Perception Survey to determine where needs are in relation to the amount of substance use and/or abuse among various age groups in the community. The greater our response to the survey, the better our results will be for analyzing how we can better service those within our community affected by substance abuse issues. Please consider taking a few minutes to participate in the survey. Answers are completely anonymous and are not in any way connected to an identifiable email address. After completing the survey, you can choose to enter a drawing to win an iPad2! Again, responses are still not linked to your name. The survey can be accessed at http://www.surveymonkey.com/NRCPS2012KC. Data will be collected through March 1, 2012.
