North Royalton Small Business Owners COVID-19 Relief Fund Announced

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 18, 2021

(North Royalton, Ohio)—Martin Luther King Jr. once said “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?” Taking that to heart former North Royalton Councilman Dan Langshaw and candidate for North Royalton Ward 3 City Council announced on MLK Day January 18, 2021 via a video on his Facebook page at Facebook.com/DanLangshawNR that he has officially launched a GoFundMe at gf.me/u/zfv9kd called the North Royalton Small Business Owners COVID-19 Relief Fund. The purpose of the fund is to provide much needed financial assistance to any small business owners in North Royalton, Ohio that have been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic that need help to avoid closing their doors for good.

According to the US Chamber of Commerce, 43% of small businesses surveyed believe that they have less than six months until a permanent shutdown is unavoidable. Which is why, Langshaw back in December of 2020 urged the North Royalton City Council during a Special Finance Committee Meeting on the 2021 City Budget to reallocate funds to help save struggling small businesses in North Royalton. Only to have it fall on deaf ears as the budget was stamped with the Council’s approval.

Dan Langshaw’s Statement on Protest at US Capital in DC

The division in our country the last decade has reached a sad breaking point today. Violence of any kind is not acceptable. No matter if you are a Democrat, Republican, Independent or anything else. We all are Americans. We all need to find a way to work together to be a better country. Find a middle ground to begin to heal. My prayers go out to all the brave law enforcement officials and those in DC. It’s ok to disagree, but do it peacefully in accordance to the United States Constitution.

February 20, 2020 Statement from North Royalton Ward 3 Councilman Dan Langshaw on the Closing of Historic Carrie Cerino’s Ristorante & Party Center

Many of us in the community are heartbroken by the abrupt closing of Carrie Cerino’s Ristorante & Party Center after 57 years of business yesterday. Carrie Cerino’s has been a pillar of both great traditional family Italian cuisine and community life. Including my own life and family. I have so many great memories as a child of family celebrations and parties. My parents had made it a tradition to celebrate their anniversary every year with “mama noodles” and I too had taken their tradition with my own wife Marissa at Carrie Cerino’s where we would celebrate our milestones together.

Owner, Carmen Cerino‘s comments on Facebook stated that:

“headwinds facing many small businesses in today’s environment made it very difficult for Carrie Cerino’s to operate and compete.”

This is truly hard to stomach and serves as a wake up for our entire community since this makes now about the third restaurant/bar type of business to close its doors in North Royalton in 2020. I truly wish as a community leader and we as a city could have worked collaboratively to save this business and others. It’s becoming alarmingly clear the current way of business as usual of economic development needs to change in this city.

I believe and will continue to advocate this year for City Council to get more actively engaged in the economic development process. While working with the City Administration, Chamber of Commerce, and business leaders, my goal is to help foster a more business friendly environment that will retain existing businesses, attract new ones, and encourage residents to buy local in North Royalton. I believe we can work together as a community so that we don’t see any more closures of family run businesses like Carrie Cerino’s.

Councilman Langshaw Official Statement January 3, 2019

Langshaw Addresses Rumors about Possible Run for North Royalton Mayor or Council President

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 3, 2019

(North Royalton, Ohio)— Ward 3 Councilman Dan Langshaw has been rumored for months about a possible run for North Royalton Mayor or Council President. Langshaw 33 years old is one of the few current city elected officials who have successfully won citywide office before. In 2009, at the age of 23 he became the youngest resident in city history to be elected and serve on the North Royalton School Board. Langshaw served on the Board till 2013 and then has been the Ward 3 Councilman ever since.

On January 3rd Councilman Langshaw ended all the rumors with officially pulling his petitions at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections to seek a fourth elected term on the North Royalton City Council for Ward 3 to continue his dedicated service to his residents and provide trusted veteran leadership for the community on Council.

After pulling his petitions Langshaw said “Serving as Mayor or Council President of North Royalton is something I definitely want to do in the near future and would be an honor. Seeking higher local elected office would allow me to help so many more residents and give me the ability to make an even greater difference for my home town. I appreciate all those in the community who have been urging me to run the last few months. However after meeting with my family over the holidays, some personal prayer, and self-reflection I am committed to continuing my service to my residents as the Ward 3 Councilman. At this point in my life since my young family has grown recently with the addition of my youngest son Derek, my dedication to working to complete some unfinished projects/issues in my ward, and ensuring my residents voices are heard on Council remain my continued number one priority. Just not the right time yet. However I will reassess again in a few years.”

A majority of City Council will be termed out of office. Langshaw plans to seek the Council Pro Tem position which is voted on by the new council once they are seated. The Council Pro Tem fills in for the Council President when they are absent. “As a US Army Veteran service is something that is in my DNA. 2020 will be a challenging transition year for our city. As a leader I believe my proven experience, dedication to service and leadership will be an asset to our community! As I a leader I plan to step up to the challenge by hopefully being selected to serve as Council Pro Tem and help mentor the new members of Council with my experience, so together we all can provide great service to our community” said Langshaw.

Drone Legislation Withdrawn Due to Existing City Law Protections Found and Possible State Intervention on the Horizon

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 20, 2017

(North Royalton, Ohio)— The North Royalton City Council Safety Committee this week discussed Councilman Langshaw’s drone regulation legislation that would provide some basic regulations to help protect resident’s safety and privacy. Drones can do some great things and are fun for kids when used safely. However drones have become a growing topic among local governments in Northeast Ohio with cities like Cleveland, Aurora, and Cuyahoga Heights passing laws to regulate this growing technology.

As of a result of discussions in the Safety Committee, feedback from residents, and assistance from experts in Drones/UAV field. The City Law Department conducted a deeper review of the city’s existing ordinances to see if there were areas that could provide some protections to resident’s safety that drones can pose. Today January 20th Councilman Dan Langshaw announced he has officially withdrawn his proposed drone regulation legislation because the Law Department has found that the city’s existing disorderly conduct ordinance can adequately address possible issues related to drones.

Councilman Langshaw believes the discussions about this topic has been good to have as drone use increases throughout the United States. He appreciates groups like the Academy of Model Aeronautics who have reached out to provide educational materials to the Police Department on how to deal with possible issues related to drones. Langshaw has confidence that the Ohio Aerospace and Aviation Technology Study Commission that recently concluded its task of conducting a two year review of drone and UAV use in Ohio will make sound recommendations to the General Assembly on how to best to address this issue at the state level. Legislation could be on the horizon at the state level and it is best to let our representatives in the Columbus take on this issue.
