North Royalton Ward 3 & Community E-Newsletter: August 2021 (Volume 15)

Greetings Residents,

I want to wish all the students in our community a great and safe 2021-2022 school year. Our kids have been through a lot during this pandemic. Special thanks go out to all the amazing teachers and staff for all they do to ensure our kids get a quality education even during a pandemic. Below I would like to update you on some things going on in our local government, about the new Delta Variant of COVID-19, community events happening around our community, and additional items you should be aware of.
I am enjoying all the conversations with residents as I go door to door to hundreds of homes in Ward 3. If I haven’t been to your neighborhood yet I am still working my way throughout the ward and hope to see you in the coming months as I campaign for City Council.

COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 is on the rise again throughout our community, state, and world. The Delta Variant is currently the predominant strain of the COVID-19 virus in the United States. On July 27, 2021, CDC released updated guidance on the need for urgently increasing COVID-19 vaccination coverage and a recommendation for everyone in areas of substantial or high transmission to wear a mask in public indoor places, even if they are fully vaccinated. CDC issued this new guidance due to several concerning developments and newly emerging data signals.  First is a reversal in the downward trajectory of cases. In the days leading up to our guidance update, CDC saw a rapid and alarming rise in the COVID case and hospitalization rates around the country. Click Here to learn more information.

On August 23rd, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted full approval to the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for people age 16 and older. Click Here for more information.

Federal mask mandate, which was set to expire next month, will be extended through January 18, 2022. So that means you will have to wear a mask on airplanes, trains, and buses still. Read More.

Back to School Reminders

School has started this week for the North Royalton City School District. Here is a quick reminder about Ohio’s traffic laws since we haven’t seen the yellow buses in a few months. On a road with fewer than 4 lanes, all traffic approaching a stopped school bus must stop at least 10 feet from the front or rear of the bus. On a road with 4 lanes or more, only traffic traveling in the same direction as the bus must stop.

Planning Commission Approves New Subdivision

North Royalton approves 15-home subdivision between Ridge & York roads - cleveland.com

The North Royalton Planning Commission has approved the Viewpoint subdivision off Harley Hills Drive. The developer plans to extend two dead end streets and build about 15 new homes. Given the number of storm water issues the City of North Royalton still has to address, I share the same concerns of residents in Ward 3 along York Road have about storm water. When elected back to City Council, I will work with the new Council to address these issues better and do more to preserve land from further development in areas historically known for flooding or storm water issues for residents. Around Ward 3 & Our City

New North Royalton Elementary School Ribbon Cutting
On August 28th I attended with my little man Derek the official Ribbon Cutting for the New North Royalton Elementary School located on State Road. As an Alumnus of the North Royalton City School District, a Former North Royalton School Board Member, a PTA dad, and a parent of children in the district, I am very grateful for this new educational facility for our kids. Thank you to the administrative teams, teachers, and staff for all that you do for our North Royalton students! Read More.

City SummerFest

On August 22nd I stopped by the City SummerFest. It was so nice to speak to a number of Ward 3 and North Royalton residents. It is not the same as our Annual Community Festival that those of us are use to since we were kids. Hopefully next year we can return back to more normal events like the Community Festival.

Meet & Greet

Thank you to Ward 3 residents Tom & Vince for hosting one of my Dan in the Neighborhood Meet & Greets on August 15th for their neighborhood. It was so great to speak with a number of Ward 3 residents about my campaign, listen to feedback on how to improve our ward/city, and for fellow neighbors to get to know each better too. If you are interested in hosting one of my next Dan in the Neighborhood Meet & Greets at your home or business. Email me at danlangshawfornrward3@yahoo.com or on my website at www.DanLangshaw.com

CLE Market
The City has partnered with Cle Market to bring an outdoor, artisan-style venue for our community once a month on the City Green. Established in 2020, the popular Cle Market pops up monthly around Northeast Ohio.  The market showcases 30 vendors, including local businesses, selling high-quality foods, baked goods, art, textiles, flowers and more. Every market will have a local, non-profit partner, so be sure to keep an eye out for who that may be. The next one will be held on September 11th from 11:00am to 3:00pm. For businesses interested in participating in the market, an application is available on the Cle Market website under vendor application.

North Royalton Produce Market
The next North Royalton Produce Market will be September 14th from 2:00pm-3:00pm outside at the York Road Recreation Field Pavilion, 14631 York Road. The other outdoor season dates are September 14th and October 12th. The program is specifically geared toward serving the senior citizen population within our community; however, anyone who meets the income criteria, determined by the Federal Government Poverty guidelines, may receive fresh produce from the market. If you are in need of monthly food assistance, call Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church at 440-237-7958 ext. 130 or St Albert the Great Parish at 440-237-6760 for information on their food pantry requirements.
