City Update

2015 Road Repair Program Update
At a Special City Council Meeting on July 25th, Council approved Ordinance 15-70 accepting the lowest best bid of Karvo Paving Company in the amount not to exceed $1,175,078.34 for the 2015 Road Repair Program. Read More. The following roads will be repaired this year: Abbey Rd, between Sprague and Albion roads, both Goodman and Hawley drives, and Akins Rd. between Ridge and Bennett roads. Construction will start in a few weeks. Bennett Road repaving is underway. The county bid out the Bennett repaving earlier this year, and Chagrin Valley Paving was awarded the project. The county is in charge of the project, which covers the stretch of Bennett Rd between Edgerton Road and Bridgewater Drive. The county is contributing 80% of the cost, nearly $1.2 million of the $1.5 million total. Our city is responsible for the remaining 20% of the project, which is $324,342, as well as 100 percent of the engineering design. Read More. Street striping is well underway as well throughout the city with work mostly being done at night. Also as I reported earlier this year the city was awarded a $48,029 county grant for crack sealing county roads. Ward 3 roads of Wallings, Abbey, York, and Albion are to be crack sealed as part of this grant. I will keep you posted if I have any additional updates.

Oil and Gas Well Fight Update
Back in early July I was one of more 100 elected officials from throughout the state of Ohio and even some local leaders from our city to sign a letter to Governor John Kasich to advocate for his support for the authority of local communities to limit and prohibit fracking operations within their borders. Read More. Urbanized drilling is of great concern for residents in our Ward and City. It is time for the State of Ohio to address these concerns through changes in Ohio law. Click Here to read the full text of the letter.

Regional Deer Control Update
As Chairman of the City Council Safety Committee for over year we have been discussing ways to get the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Regional partners to address the deer issues in our region. At the July Safety Committee Meeting the Mayor gave an update on the efforts he is spearheading with other Mayors in our region to address this issue. Read More. The goal is to have on the ballot for March 2016 Presidential Primary Election for voters to approve a regional management plan which North Royalton and the neighboring cities of Broadview Heights, Olmsted Falls, Parma, Parma Heights, Seven Hills and Strongsville would all have on the ballot at same time in their cities. The cities are still working on the details and developing short-term and long-term goals with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources using both lethal and non-lethal methods. There will be community meetings throughout the region to share and discuss what will be proposed. Nothing has been officially scheduled as of yet. I will continue to keep you posted when I have more to report.

Senior Vehicle Grant
Early this year the city submitted a grant to Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency’s Enhanced Mobility for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program. Recently the city found out that they received the grant which will provide 80%t of the cost, nearly $40,000, to put toward the purchase of a $51,000 unique mobility SUV. The SUV will used for assisting the senior citizens in our community that are home bound and need assistance to medical appointments and other needs. Read More.
