Ward 3 E-Newsletter: April 2015

Greetings Ward 3 Resident,

Well Mother Nature is slowly realizing it is officially Spring. Hopefully soon enough our temperatures will be in the 60s or higher and we can enjoy some good weather for a change. Regardless of the season we are in, city government remains very active with much to report below.

 Council Update

Highlights from Council Meetings
Some highlights from the City Council Meetings for March. Council passed Ordinance 15-17, Ordinance 15-18, and Ordinance 15-19 that authorizes the mayor and finance director to bond out the new city hall project and its furniture, upgrades to the telephone system and Internet, existing notes from the repair of State, Wallings and Ridge roads issued in 2008; and other road improvements that were done in the past few years, and the special sewer assessment project on Edgerton Road. By utilizing the lower rates that are available the city will save about $300,000 over the life of the bond. Read More. Council also passed Ordinance 15-30 and Ordinance 15-31 approving agreements with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District to complete four projects related to the May 12, 2014 by the end of this Spring. Council passed Resolution 15-32, authorizing the Mayor to submit an application to the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) for Cleveland Urbanized Area Federal Transit (FTA) funding from the Enhanced Mobility for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program (Section 5301). Read More. Council passed Ordinance 15-34, to authorize the city to utilize the Community Reinvestment Area Program as an economic-development tool to help better retain and attract new business. City Update

shopsShops at South Market
The City Planning Commission approved preliminary conceptual site plans for a proposed development, at the northeast corner of West 130th Street and Boston Road, would consist of six buildings measuring a total of 80,000 square feet, split evenly between retail and office. This development would be called tentatively the Shops at South Market which would include restaurants and two national chains as well. It would like a mini Crocker Park of sorts. Read More.

City Finances Remain Strong
Our city ended 2014 with a carryover of about $1.53 million dollars and for this year the financial outlook for the city continues to remain strong. Read More.

County Property Demolition Program Funds
The city is applying for an additional $60,000 through Cuyahoga County’s new demolition program funds to address five structures that have been identified per the city’s nuisance ordinance that warrant demolition. The new funding opportunity is a result of a $50 million bond issue that the Cuyahoga County Council passed late 2014. Both grant funds and loans are available through this program. Read More.


 

Around Ward 3

Public Hearing on Senior Mobility Vehicle Transport Grant
On March 2nd attended a Public Hearing regarding the city applying for a grant from the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) to fund the cost of a mobility vehicle to enhance the senior center’s capabilities. If selected this will help improve services for our senior citizens in our city.

Planning Commission Meeting
On March 4th attended the City Planning Commission Meeting. It was great to hear about the plans for a new mixed use retail center to be built near Boston Rd and West 130th St.

Team Willey PicFight for Air Climb
On March 7, 2015 I participated again in the American Lung Association’s Fight for Air Climb at the Terminal Tower in downtown Cleveland. I did this in honor of my friend and predecessor the late North Royalton Ward 3 Councilman Don Willey and a cure for lung diseases for residents in the North Royalton Community as well. It was great to be a member of Team Willey again which includes (Don’s daughters) Lisa Willey & Denise Willey, and me. We climbed up 42 floors, and about 804 steps up the Terminal Tower to the observation deck. Thank you to all those who donated, our team raised over $1,530 for the American Lung Association! St. Patrick’s Day Senior Party
On March 16th attended the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Senior Party sponsored by Mayor Stefanik. It was a fun time and great to meet so many fellow Ward 3 residents to! I want to offer special thanks to the Mayor and the Office on Aging & Human Services for putting on such a great even for our seniors!State of the City Address
On March 18th attended the annual State of the City Address delivered by Mayor Stefanik. It was great to hear about all the great things going on here in North Royalton. Read More. North Royalton Athletic Boosters Night at the Races
On March 28th attended the 16th Annual North Royalton Athletic Boosters Night at the Races. It was a great evening. Special thanks to the Athletic Boosters for all that they do for our student athletes! Go Bears!

North Royalton Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt
On March 29th attended the Annual North Royalton Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt. Special thanks to the North Royalton Kiwanis and volunteers for making it such a fun event for all the kids! Read More.

Residents if you are sick of getting unwanted or unsolicited phone books left at your door or driveway. You  can visit www.yellowpagesoptout.com and select the opt-out tab to stop delivery. Once you register, they send an e-mail with a passcode and that passcode is then used to opt out of the program.
