WARD 3 MONTHLY E-NEWSLETTER: AUGUST 2013

Greetings Ward 3 Resident,

Wow, the summer has gone by pretty fast. I want to first thank all the residents who attended the Ward 3 Summer Ice Cream Social back on July 28th and for all the very generous donations to help support the North Royalton Food Bank. I hope to do another ward get together like this next year.

As of August 5th I have completed walking our entire ward by going door to door. I sure got a great workout especially going up and down the hills of Albion Rd., Wallings Rd., Hampton Dr., and Washington Ave! I appreciate everyone’s feedback and even on some of those hot days a nice cool glass of water some of you gave me when I visited. I am now in the process of putting all the feedback I received into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and then will start researching ways to address these issues. Again thank you so much for the time you all took to speak with me at your door!

You may have noticed that this month the E-Newsletter is in a new format. Thanks to my younger twin sisters Dana and Grace Langshaw, who are recent graduates of The Ohio State University, they used some of their skills in their newly acquired B.A. Degree in Marketing to help teach me a few ways to improve my newsletter. I hope you like this new format. If you have any suggestions for my newsletter, I always welcome your feedback too!

Have a great week!

Dan Langshaw
Ward 3 Councilman
North Royalton City Council

COUNCIL UPDATE

City Council is on Summer Recess for the entire month of August. Although we have not had any meetings this month, I would like to note that the city finances continue to show improvement with a possible $2 million dollar carryover for next year. Last month’s collections were up $257,000 over July 2012, and this month’s were $350,000 above August 2012. This a very positive sign and I hope when council starts discussing next year’s budget we can include more funding to address road repairs and other infrastructure issues throughout the ward/city. But we will continue to watch the numbers and remain fiscally conservative. Learn more.

CITY UPDATE

Oil Well Fight Continues
On August 13th Mayor Bob Stefanik, Council President Larry Antoskiewicz, and Law Director Tom Kelly all traveled to Columbus to speak against Cutter Oil Company’s request to mandatorily pool city land and two homeowners’ properties. Only to find out that the hearing before the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ technical advisory committee was canceled. All the other parties involved including Cutter Oil were notified that the meeting was canceled. But what is most disturbing is that no one in the city was notified and no reason has been provided by ODNR to why. The city is seeking answers why the meeting was canceled and has contacted State Representative Mike Dovilla, and State Senator Tom Patton about this matter. The committee’s next meeting is in November. AROUND WARD 3

Back to School Safety Reminder
The North Royalton City School District is back in sessions. Drivers please be careful driving in school zones. Schools buses are back on the road and students will be crossing streets throughout the ward to catch those buses. Be mindfully of the post speed limits of 25mph in the residential areas of the ward as well and keeping the appropriate distance away from a bus when they stop. I wish all kids in our ward who have returned back to school a great 2013-2014 school year too!

Building Code Violations/Vacant Homes
As your Councilman I get weekly reports from the Building Department on various violations by Ward 3 property owners; that city building inspectors have found during their inspections. A common violation I see are violations of non-compliance with Section 660.14(a) (b) (c) (d) of the Codified Ordinance of North Royalton titled “Weeds and Grass”. A majority of these properties appear to be either vacant or in foreclosure. Please continue to let me know of any properties like this in our ward, by e-mailing me at ward3@northroyalton.org with the address. I am especially focusing my attention to trouble spots along York Rd. I am working with the Building Department and Mayor to see what can be done to clean things up.

Congrats to the Pirates!
I just want to say congrats to the Boys 9-10 Year Old North Royalton Baseball League Champions Ward 3 Councilman Dan Langshaw’s Pirates. I sponsor a baseball team each year and this is the first time that I have had one win a championship! Click here for the team picture.
Cleveland Police Marine Corps League Helps Ward 3 Couple
I would like to offer special thanks to the Cleveland Police Marine Corps League in helping fellow ward 3 residents the newly sworn-in Cleveland Police Department Patrol Officer (United States Marine Corps Veteran) Russell Barnhart and his girlfriend Stacey Nackowitz. Stacey was hospitalized with stroke-like symptoms eight days after the birth of their daughter Isabelle. The Cleveland Police Marine Corps League got 40 of Barnhart’s fellow officers, who donated hundreds of hours of sick time, money and baby supplies to help the couple as Stacey recovers. As a military veteran, myself I also want to thank Ofc. Barnhart for his service to our country and I pray for Stacey’s speedy recovery! I had a chance to pay a quick visit to the couple at their home and wished them the best on behalf of our whole ward. If you didn’t catch the amazing Sun Newspaper story about the family click here.
