SINCE MY LAST SCHOOL BOARD UPDATE

Passing of Harry Loder
Former North Royalton Mayor Harry E. Loder died recently on Nov. 20. He was 87. A life-long resident of North Royalton, Loder was mayor from 1971-79 after serving as a councilman and council president. As Mayor, Loder started the Emergency Rescue Services, the Office on Aging Department and helped the city get its first lighted baseball field at York Road. In 1952, Loder opened Loder’s Shake Shoppe, which has remained a favorite spot in North Royalton. He also drove a bus for North Royalton City Schools for 10 years. When I started my run for School Board back in 2009 I got a chance to meet Harry when I knocked on his door while campaigning. He invited me in and I had a chance to sit down in his kitchen of his home off of Boston road. I enjoyed listening to all his advice on public service and the history of our city and school district. He will be missed and my condolences go out to his family on their loss. If you like to learn more about Harry the Sun Newspaper did a nice story about him. Here is the link below:

Held my Monthly Constituent Coffee on November 29th at the Coffee Club in Broadview Heights. Thank you to those who stopped by. I hold these coffees in order to stay in touch with fellow residents and listen to their feedback one on one. There is no appointment necessary. I will let you know when my next one for December will be.

On December 1st attended the 14th Annual North Royalton Athletic Boosters Night at the Races Fundraiser. I just like to thank the North Royalton Athletic Boosters and all those who helped raise money for our student athletes and programs in our school district.

City of North Royalton Holiday Food Box Program
North Royalton Holiday Food Box Program sponsored by the Kiwanis Club and the Office on Aging is seeking donations of non-perishable food for its Thanksgiving and Christmas distribution to needy families within our city. They are accepting donations of food Monday-Friday from 8:30 am–3:30pm at our Office on Aging on a daily basis, but if you have large boxes of non-perishable items, please call us so we can arrange a drop-off directly at our food bank. The Christmas distribution of food and gifts is on December 15, 2012. At this time they are trying to give out presents to the children of our community. One group which they need help with is the teenagers who are difficult to buy for when it comes to clothes (their first request), music, or games. Gift cards to places such as Wal-Mart,Target or JCPenney are always appreciated by the teens. One other program they administer at Christmas is the Adopt- A- Family in which special families in need are adopted by other residents or service groups in the community. They match up the need with the individuals or groups as we are aware of the ages and special requests by the parents or children. Please call the office at 440-582-6333 and ask to speak with either Judy or Debbie, if you would like to donate to the program or if you are in need of food and wish to apply for the program. The deadline for the Thanksgiving application is Friday, November 9th. Last year they had parents in need of winter coats and boots for their children. They would like to plan ahead before the cold weather arrives, so please call them now, so they can try to meet this need in a timely manner.
