City Update

2016 Operation North Royalton Cares Program
Thank you to all those who donated to the Seventh Annual Operation North Royalton Cares Program. This years program was able to provide school supplies to 61 children in our community in need and the North Royalton Salvation Army Unit provided $335.00 in clothing vouchers to be used at its store in Strongsville.

Medical Marijuana Moratorium
The Ohio General Assembly recently passed House Bill 523 which legalize medical marijuana in the state of Ohio. The law officially goes into effect September 8th. When City Council returns back into session on September 6th we will pass what is expected to be a six month moratorium before the law goes into effect. The moratorium would prevent medical marijuana businesses from opening in North Royalton during that six month period and would give the city more time to study this new state law so we can make the best policy decisions in the interest of the community as a whole. House Bill 523 authorizes local governments to establish some of their own marijuana regulations. Local governments can restrict locations where marijuana is cultivated, process and sold, or they can ban the growing and sale of marijuana altogether. However, local governments can’t stop patients from using medical marijuana. The state law already provides some restrictions on medical marijuana. Such as no one can grow, process or sell marijuana within 500 feet of a school, church, library, playground or park. Also, no one is allowed to grow marijuana in their homes. I will keep you posted on this issue. Read More.

The representative will be at the library from 9am to 3pm on these dates to discuss and help veterans file for various VA benefits and claims and assist with temporary financial assistance and help with transportation (bus tickets) for VA medical appointments. Not only will this program spare veterans a trip downtown to discuss these topics, but no appointment is necessary. Veterans can simply walk in at a time convenient for them during the VSC hours.
