City Update

City Stepping Up Efforts to Address Blight
The Administration is stepping up efforts to address blighted properties in the city.  Some of these efforts include increased drive by inspections, introducing legislation for rental property registry requiring such properties submit to interior and exterior inspections, upgrading software in the Building Department to streamline and better improve enforcement. Also the Safety Director’s duties will be expanded. Every seven to 10 days, he will be driving the wards on the lookout for properties that may have fallen into disrepair or other violations. If there is a property in your neighborhood you are concerned about, please report it to the Building Department at 440-582-3000. Read More. I support the Administration’s efforts and it will help in addressing issues of blight I have been working to combat here in Ward 3.

RT 82 Widening Project Update
Widening of RT 82 between York Rd. and West 130th St. is still in the works. They are in the process of finishing up the design work and begin the land acquisitions later this year. A tentative community meeting will be held about the project sometime mid to late summer, the project will go out to bid sometime in 2017. Then Phase 1 of construction in 2018 followed by Phase 2 in 2019. The plan calls for widening the road to three lanes, to help reduce traffic congestion. Project also includes sidewalks on both sides of the road. Phase 1 will be from Abbey Rd. to West 130th St., and then Phase 2 completes the portion from Abbey Rd to York Rd which one side of it is located in Ward 3. Read More.

Issue 10
When you vote in the March 15th Primary Election, besides helping narrow down the field of who our next President of the United States will be. Whatever the vote outcome is will direct the city on what is the best way to address the urban deer issue. As your Councilman I will support whatever the majority of residents decided is the best course of action. Below is a copy of what the ballot language will look like:

Ward 3 Sidewalk Survey
Highlights
I like to thank all those who participated in my Ward 3 Sidewalk Survey. Your feedback was very helpful. I wanted to share with you some highlights from the survey. A total of 68 residents participated in the survey. 59.09% of them had sidewalks in the front of their property and 40.91% did not. Those who did not have a sidewalk were first asked if they be willing to pay to have a sidewalk installed in the front of their property. 26.92% said yes and 73.08% said no. Those same residents who did not have sidewalks were asked in a follow up question “If you were required to have a sidewalk installed in the front of your property and you could make small payments to pay for it over the course of 10 or 20 years. Would you be more willing to have a sidewalk on your property?” The numbers change with 45.83% yes for sidewalks and 54.83% no. A difference of 9%. A majority of residents 81.54% said yes that sidewalks should be installed on one side of State Rd to connect City/Memorial Park to the corner of State Rd & RT 82. Residents were also asked additional areas they like to see sidewalks in Ward 3 and throughout the city. The responses matched much of what the 2014 City Master Plan, North Royalton Alternative Transportation Study, and previous resident feedback I have received recommended. Based on resident feedback I walked on foot the two areas that the North Royalton Alternative Transportation Study recommended in our ward for sidewalks which are the portion of (State Rd) from Wallings Rd. to Castle Dr. and the portion of (York Rd) from Wallings Rd to York Alpha Dr. I also walked on foot an additional area that residents recommended which was the portion of (Abbey Rd) from Glen Abbey Dr. to Worthington Way. Ward 3 Residents named to City Charter Review Commission
Great to see two Ward 3 residents Amy Kuntz & Jeanne Cilenti to be appointed to the City Charter Review Commission. Every four years the City Charter Review Commission is assembled to review the city charter and determine if it needs to be modernized or changed in any way. The commission will have until June 1st to submit any proposed charter amendments and alterations, which would then be placed on the November ballot. Prior to serving on City Council, I had the honor of serving as Chairman of the last Charter Review Commission in 2012. It is a very important process and a great way to ensure our city charter is up to date. Read More.

Special Recognition
I like to recognize some fellow Ward 3 residents Bill & Cindy Babitt. They have recently sold their business Babitt Funeral Home to Busch Funeral and Crematory Services.  I like to thank them both for all that they do for our community and their over 37 years of business as well. I wish them the best on their retirement! Read More.
