WARD 3 MONTHLY E-NEWSLETTER: February 2014

Greetings Ward 3 Resident,

This year’s American Lung Association’s Fight for Air Climb Event on March 1st at the Terminal Tower in downtown Cleveland; coincides with the one year anniversary of the passing of my predecessor the late Councilman Don Willey. Don was a friend to many here in Ward 3, including me. I figure this would be a great way to honor his memory and to make a little difference too. If you are interested in supporting Team Willey click here for more information.

Calling all Shadow Creek Apartments, Harbour Light Condominiums, Sunrise Cove Condominiums, Independence Place Condominiums, and Buntingtree Condominiums and any North Royalton Ward 3 residents. On April 3rd I will be hosting a Slice of Ward 3 Event from 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Shadow Creek Party Room located at 11560 Somerset Dr., North Royalton, OH 44133. The purpose of the event is to give residents an opportunity to meet me your City Councilman and fellow neighbors too. Residents will be able to sample FREE food provided by sponsors such as: Vinci’s Pizzeria, Firehouse Sports Bar & Grille, and North Royalton Papa John’s Pizza. Attendees will also enjoy musical entertainment provided by Ward 3’s own Island Jeff. I am especially trying to reach out to residents who live in apartments or condominiums. This slice of Ward 3 residents are often the hardest to engage due to building limitations or property management policies. Hope to see you there.

Have a great weekend!

Dan Langshaw
Ward 3 Councilman
North Royalton City Council

COUNCIL UPDATE

Some highlights from the City Council Meetings for February. Council passed Ordinance 13-152an ordinance amending the codified ordinances of the city of North Royalton by amending various sections of the codified ordinances in order to eliminate the Architectural Review Board and assign those duties to other boards and city officials. This change will help make local government more efficient and effective. Click here to learn more.

Council also passed Ordinance 14-14 an ordinance authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement with the city of Strongsville, Ohio for public safety dispatch services. Residents will not notice any change in how their calls are handled. However, the new Strongsville dispatch center will answer calls more quickly. By combining dispatch services, all employees will have been trained in emergency medical dispatch, in which they can guide you step by step on how to do CPR and other life saving measures over the phone till first responders arrive. Our current dispatch does not have such training. Besides the future cost savings, this change will save lives. The greater technology and additional lines of communication can mean the difference in an emergency situation. Residents of both North Royalton and Strongsville should call 911 in the event of an emergency. Click here and click here for more information.

Council passed Ordinance 14-15an ordinance authorizing the Mayor to enter into a partnership agreement with the Board of Park Commissioners of the Cleveland Metroparks. This will extend the all-purpose trail in the Metroparks to Ridge Road in North Royalton to Route 21 in Brecksville. Click here to learn more.

Council approved Ordinance 14-26 establish the design-build firm proposal determined to be the best value and authorizing execution of design-build contract. The Krill Company Inc. was selected as the contractor for the city hall design-build renovation project. They came highly recommended. Click here to learn more.

Congressman Jim Renacci Parma District Office Open House
On February 22nd I attended United States Congressman Jim Renacci’s open house for his new Parma District Office located at 7335 Ridge Rd. Suite 2, Parma Ohio 44129.
