Good Afternoon:

Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all those who have served or are currently serving our great country in the United States Military. My thoughts and prayers on this day go out to my battle buddies from my old U.S. Army unit who are currently on deployment and away from their families on this Veterans Day to keep us all safe.

SINCE MY LAST SCHOOL BOARD UPDATE

Although the NRHS Bears Football Team’s season ended last night in the second round of the playoffs. I just like to say GREAT JOB to our student athletes and coaching staff on a historic season! GO BEARS!

On November 8th attended the Taste of North Royalton presented by the North Royalton Educational Foundation and North Royalton Stadium Foundation. Special thanks to all those who made this event a success!

Bond Issue Update
There was 17,370 ballots were cast in our district for the November 6th bond issue. Final results of Issue 112 were 8,240 (47.4%) for the issue and 9,130 (52.6%) against the issue. Although it was defeated I just wanted to thank you all for your support and time with the Bond campaign. The Board will be meeting this week to discuss what are our next steps are and how to move forward in addressing our future facility needs.

November 6th General Election Ohio General Assembly Results

Ohio House of Representatives
Election experts have been watching the Ohio House races since earlier this year, trying to predict which party will control the Speaker’s gavel in 2013. The Democrats showed early momentum among Ohio voters after a resounding victory repealing Senate Bill 5, Ohio’s collective bargaining reform law. But the incumbent Republican leadership team was able to maintain control and ended up with a majority. Republicans ended up with 60 seats to Democrats’ 39, a net gain for the GOP. I would like to note there are 2 House Races which could change depending on the outcome of provisional ballots and possible recounts. I will keep you posted.

Ohio Senate
The Ohio Senate Republicans held a predictable majority in this year’s election cycle. The Senate Republicans were able to maintain their 23 seats to the Democrats’ 10. With Republican control of the Ohio House, Senate, and Governor’s office, the prospects of an active “lame-duck” legislative session between November 6 and the end of the year seem highly unlikely according to experts.

City of North Royalton Holiday Food Box Program
North Royalton Holiday Food Box Program sponsored by the Kiwanis Club and the Office on Aging is seeking donations of non-perishable food for its Thanksgiving and Christmas distribution to needy families within our city. They are accepting donations of food Monday-Friday from 8:30 am–3:30pm at our Office on Aging on a daily basis, but if you have large boxes of non-perishable items, please call us so we can arrange a drop-off directly at our food bank. The Christmas distribution of food and gifts is on December 15, 2012. At this time they are trying to give out presents to the children of our community. One group which we need help with are the teenagers who are difficult to buy for when it comes to clothes (their first request), music, or games. Gift cards to places such as Wal-Mart,Target or JCPenney are always appreciated by the teens. One other programs they administer at Christmas is the Adopt- A- Family in which special families in need are adopted by other residents or service groups in the community. They match up the need with the individuals or groups as we are aware of the ages and special requests by the parents or children. Please call the office at 440-582-6333 and ask to speak with either Judy or Debbie, if you would like to donate to the program or if you are in need of food and wish to apply for the program. The deadline for the Thanksgiving application is Friday, November 9th. Last year they had parents in need of winter coats and boots for their children. They would like to plan ahead before the cold weather arrives, so please call them now, so they can try to meet this need in a timely manner.
