Board Update

Good Morning:

This afternoon Sunday March 14th I will be holding my Monthly Coffee at the French Quarter Café located at 5540 Wallings Road from 12pm to 2pm. I hold these coffees in order to stay in touch with fellow residents and listen to their feedback. There is no appointment necessary. Simply stop by and talk to me.

Also I just wanted to wish everyone an early Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

LAST WEEK IN YOUR SCHOOL BOARD

The Board had its’ March Regular School Board Meeting on March 8th. The Board recognized the achievements of three teachers in the district. Tony Kleem NRHS Social Studies teacher, was recognized for his noteworthy work in the area of art. Tony’s puzzles and artwork have been purchased not only locally but internationally. Susan Finelli, Valley Vista 4th grade teacher, was recognized for her recent publication, Life’s Amusement Park . Her book has recently received a Mom’s Choice Award. Stacey Leatherman, NRHS Language Arts teacher, was recognized for her publication of poems, Stranger Air. Stacey is a recognized poet receiving a MFA from Vermont College. The Board also approved the hiring of Bruce Bradley as the new Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Mr. Bradley is a great new addition to our district!

On March 10th I attended the Ohio School Board Association’s State Legislative Conference in Columbus. It was great to hear discussion from the panel from the School Funding Advisory Council, which was composed of state representatives, Ohio Education Association, and individuals from other districts. They discussed key issues that effect educational funding here in Ohio and the new Evidence Based Model. There was a good question and answer session with key lawmakers about current legislation being introduced in Columbus. While in Columbus I took the time to meet with our representatives in the Ohio General Assembly in both the House and Senate. I was able to pass along concerns regarding current legislation such as HB 400, SB 8, HB 373, and other education related issues.

THIS WEEK IN YOUR SCHOOL BOARD

Monthly Coffee with Dan Langshaw, North Royalton School Board Member
If you are a constituent living in the North Royalton School District, you are
invited to attend my next monthly constituent coffee on March. 14th at the French Quarter Café located at 5540 Wallings Road from 12pm to 2pm. I hold these coffees in order to stay in touch with fellow residents and listen to their feedback. There is no appointment necessary. Simply stop by and talk to me. If you have specific questions about the district or for our Superintendent Ed Vittardi then please come to a School Community Exchange Night for Education meeting instead of my Monthly Coffees. SCENE meetings are designed to allow the community a chance to ask questions and to get specific answers regarding the district in a large group setting. My Monthly Coffees are for listening to residents on a one-on-one bases and not for a large Q & A session in which the SCENE is for. If you have any questions, please contact me at 440-785-4240 or email me at dan.langshaw@northroyaltonsd.org
